Lightning Struck the big Ash Tree

Lightning Struck the big Ash Tree

If you  remember the hugh ash tree in the front yard, you will understand what a loss it was.  There was an old tire swing hanging on one of those big limbs.  When you check this picture closely you will see the white streak that was about 7 inches wide at the bottom and continues up above the branch with the swing on it.  The lightning destroyed the tree and it has been cut down.  The base of the trunk was 5 feet across and that was a major job of grinding and a very scary experience when the tree was cut down.  It leaned  heavily towards the house.    The new flower bed  will cover the rotting roots for some time.   The old pump house looks so bare without his companion tree.

With a giganic pile of sawdust, a 5 foot diameter root from the old ash tree trunk still at ground level and varying degrees of shade– this new garden is a real challenge.  The center piece is a tobacco curing burner turned into a bird bath.  The bird bath set the stage for lots of black wrought iron, clay pots and stone.  The feeders and flowers should attract lots of birds to and color to enhance the front yard.
